As with any grand tour and stage race the first stage settles the nerves, sets the scene and is always a good way to introduce the riders to the weeks ahead. As this is our first stage I thought it best I introduce myself.

I am a 22 year old, cycling obsessed, University graduate from North Lincolnshire now living in the North East of England. Cycling has always played a large part of my life, it was my first form of freedom, has enabled me to see some beautiful scenery and most of all challenge myself.

The title of the Lanterne Rouge has always been given to the last placed rider in the Tour de France, somewhat an unwanted title though over the years many a rider has battled for this title to gain something from the Tour. But for me this is a symbol of determination, desire to achieve and also proving no matter what challenges face you, you can overcome these and reach the finish line.

The Lanterne Rouge Blog aims to document my life with cycling, the adventures it takes me on and the challenges cycling throws up. Along the way we will talk all things cycling from the pro peloton to the local cycling café.

So clip in and join me on this journey, get involved in the conversation using the comments below each blog post, I always love seeing the views and opinions of our community.

Until next time, Ciao!
