Yes I will be the first to admit it its too early to even consider the new year but for us cyclists it's never a bad thing to think ahead for what we want to achieve in the next season. Personally for me next year will be a big change for a lot of reasons, namely because I want to race again! Having first raced at 14 years old I never feel as though I've been able to give training and racing a fair go due to educational commitments and also not being able to get to races, North Lincolnshire really need to up their racing calendar!
So what does racing actually mean? For those of you reading this who actually race competitively you already know. You know the suffering, the miles on the bike, the skills of pinning a number on, but most importantly you know the enjoyment. Racing is fun, don't get me wrong its real hard, makes you feel sick at times, but most of all it is FUN!! And I am going to say it on here first..... I want that W next year, I have been a cyclist far too long to not go and try get that win but I feel with enough dedication, racing and passion we can get there.
Being an engineer by education we love a plan and methodology, so how do I intend on doing this then? Working a full-time job, family/partner commitments and training, surely that doesn't work? It can work and I will be giving it a good shot at working. Over the past few months, whilst I've not been able to ride, I have had the chance to listen to the Trainer Road Podcasts, and I want in! These guys have a wealth of experience training people who have busy lives and don't live like the Pros, all whilst offering training programs to be completed on a few hours a week, yes this can mean at times the long steady miles out on the road are neglected, but it's all about sacrifice, right? I've never really followed any strict training regime, I've always gone off feel and gone as hard as I can. Now I know this isn't the best but sometimes its the best way to enjoy this sport, its such a freeing sport its good to take your head out of your bike computer and enjoy the scenery. If you've had any experience using Trainer Road leave a comment below or DM me, I'd love to hear your thoughts on it.
Now for the races I am aiming for. Primarily I want to target road races, I will be racing crits but these shall be mid-week races, the odd one on the weekend where possible but road races will take priority when choosing the races to travel to. Road racing is why I fell in love with the sport so its also kind of fitting that's what I return to!
Talking about my return I am hoping to start training again in the next few weeks, finally been given the green light by the physio to start training again so I am incredibly happy about that. There will be a blog post coming up about the physio and starting back training so keep checking on the blog and watch out for that one!
Until next time, Ciao!!!
